Confidence and protection remain central to Canadian travel habits

Intentional approach to travel

Despite geopolitical uncertainty, Canadians are committed to travel and recognize that health care and financial protection are essential parts of responsible trip planning. In fact, 86% of travellers have some form of travel insurance, whether purchased directly (56%) or through workplace plans and credit cards (30%).

Travellers prioritize protection

Awareness of medical costs abroad remains high, with 83% of Canadians recognizing that an overnight emergency room visit could exceed $3,600 CAD. Many view travel insurance a key part of planning, providing greater confidence amid rising prices and global uncertainty.

Younger Canadians turn to insurance

42% of Gen Z and 47% of Millennials now view purchasing travel insurance as a peace-of-mind essential, up from 39% and 43% in 2025, respectively.

Together, these trends highlight a new mindset and rising expectations among younger travellers to stay protected, prepared and confident wherever they go.
